A few days ago, I shared my Sephora VIB Sale wishlist and after purchasing a few new products, I am here to share my first impressions with you!

My biggest purchase during the sale was the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation, which I thought would be ideal for traveling due to the packaging and formula. I’ve always used liquid foundation so I found this a little difficult and time-consuming to blend out. I noticed that the stick probably will not last very long and that it accentuates dry patches and texture, but that problem is resolved with concealer and a damp beauty sponge. Although I still need to perfect the application process, this is a beautiful base product with a full coverage and slightly dewy finish.

I have been eyeing the Hourglass Scattered Light Glitter Eye Shadow in ‘Reflect’ for a long time and I am so glad I tried it out. It is a very refined, understated glitter that adds a stunning dimension to any look. I read enough reviews on this product to know that it is not meant to be super pigmented or metallic so I wasn’t disappointed in its subtlety. However, I prefer my rose golds and champagnes to be very intense so I am considering exchanging this for the deeper ‘Smoke’ shade since it might be a better addition to my collection.

Because I am really interested in this Korean brand and need a new lip balm, I bought the Laneige Glowy Lip Balm in ‘Grapefruit’ and so far I adore it. I love grapefruit scented anything so this feels soothing and refreshing. It has a subtle peachy pink tint and a lovely high-shine finish. The consistency is the perfect middle ground between thick and thin, which means it lasts a decent amount of time and hydrates.

I also used a few of my points to pick up three samples. First I chose a mini Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, which is the absolute best at ensuring my makeup stays put all day. I have actually never owned the famous NARS ‘Orgasm’ Blush but it is unsurprisingly a lovely glowy pink shade with peach undertones. I have yet to try the BareMinerals Dew Mist Setting Spray but think it will work well with my new foundation, and I also tried a sample of the Buxom Wanderlust Primer-Infused Blushes — the shade ‘Dolly’ is a beautiful, long-lasting mauve with a subtle sheen.

I’d love to know which beauty products you splurged on during the biannual sale, and be sure to let me know if you’d like more in-depth reviews on any of these items in the future. Thanks for spending your morning on Makeup by Makena.

XOXO,
Makena
