In many ways, Summer is the perfect time of year to get creative with makeup by experimenting with different colors and finishes, but sometimes even the most dedicated beauty lovers don’t have the time or energy to apply dozens of products. Today, I am going to be showing you how I create a complete makeup look using only five products; it is fresh and minimal, while still incorporating a variety of shades and textures to look like you spent more time on your face than you did. Enjoy!

Once I have completed my skin care routine, including sunscreen, I will move onto my base makeup, which consists of only a lightweight, skin-like concealer. I recommend choosing a shade that matches the exact tone of your skin and then blending it in with your fingertips under your eyes and on any redness or blemishes. This technique ensures that you are only wearing product where you need it rather than having a thick layer all over your entire face. It also prevents cakiness and creates the illusion of a fresh, natural complexion.

To add dimension and warmth back to the face, I opt for a cream bronzer because liquids perform better than powders on bare skin. I love to drape this all along the temples, cheekbones, and even apples of the cheeks for an all-over sun-kissed look rather than just a confined contour. I also add this to the crease and outer corner of my eye for some extra depth.

I usually reach for a  cream highlighter for these types of looks, but today, I used a powder one because I find that this one has maximum impact without any harsh lines. I added it to the high points of my face, including the inner corner and brow bone, which will contribute to a youthful and well-rested look.

I am always amazed by how much long, dark lashes elevate any makeup look, no matter how simple it may be, so of course, I added a few coats of my favorite mascara.

I find that when I am not wearing a full face of makeup, very pigmented lipstick can look imbalanced and out of place, sometimes even accentuating the redness from any blemishes. Today, however, I thought I would venture outside of my comfort zone and wear a vibrant orangey-coral on my lips, and I am so pleased with how it turned out. This type of color is perfect for Summer and adds a fun element to any look. For a subtle monochromatic effect, I blended a touch of this lipstick onto my cheeks and the crease of my eye to tie everything together.

This look was really fun, easy, and quick to create, so I hope you like it. As always, let me know if you try this look yourself and leave your favorite minimal makeup tips for the season down below.

XOXO,
Makena
