Autumn is one of the most beautiful times of the year, and I thougth I would mimic the beautiful warm-toned golds, coppers, and bronze shades in a metallic and autumnal smokey eye! This makeup look is perfect for a dramatic daytime look, a seasonal night out, or a breathtaking Homecoming look! My friend Melyna is so talented when it comes to makep and has such an amazing YouTube channel where she does Zodiac themed tutorials, so make sure to check both of our instragrams to see our Homecoming-inspired collaborations!

I have been obsessed with the original Urban Decay Naked Palette this Autumn, and since many of you may already own this cult classic and may be in need of some Homecoming makeup inspiration, I thought I would create a beautiful and more dramatic gold, copper, and bronze smokey eye! After priming my eyes, I used the tape trick, placing a diagonal strip from the outer corner of my eye to the tail of my eyebrow to create a clean edge for my eyeshadow. First I blended a mixture of “Naked” and “Buck” through my crease for a matte tan transition shade. Then, I took “Darkhorse,” a very deep shimmery mocha color, on the outer corner of my eye and lashline on the edge of my tape to create a diffused liner. I then went in with a dark coppery bronze called “Smog,” on the outer third of the eye, and also the copper shade from the Maybelline “Chai Latte” Quad that I am always raving about this time of year on the outer half.

To be honest, I am using a lot of similar shades, and although you do not need this many eyeshadows, using gradient colors will make the blending process a lot easier and more flawless. Lastly, the star of this look is “Half Baked,” a gorgeous gold that I am getting damp to make extra metallic and then patting onto my eye from the inner corner to the first half of my eyelid. As you can see from the photos, I extended those last three shadows slightly above my crease, which makes this look beautiful in photos and suitable for all eyeshapes, including hooded eyes. Once I have blended everything together to create an ombre, metallic smokey eye, I will finish off with a winged liner and lots of mascara.

{FACE}

This makeup look is really focused on the eyes, so the face makeup is pretty simple and can be easily customized. For formal events with lots of photos such as homecoming, I love the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Foundation because it has amazing medium coverage, the perfect natural finish for Autumn, and a long-lasting, blendable formula. For a more affordable alternative, the L’Oreal Infallable Pro-Matte 24 Foundation, and the NYX “Sunny” Bronzer are wonderful quality and very similar, as well. For contour, I love my Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer, and I used the BECCA x Jaclyn Hill “Amaretto” nude blush and “Prosecco Pop” gold highlighter. As always, for special occasions, I set my entire face with the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, which ensures that everything will last forever.

{LIPS}

From Left to Right: L’Oreal “Fairest Nude,” NYX “Pops,” Rimmel “107,” and Maybelline “Bit of Berry”

An ombre lip is absolutely stunning paired with this eyeshadow look, so I have two options! If you want to go for a more dramatic Fall look, you can do a beautiful berry lip; I used Rimmel “107,” a deep berry red, on the outer edges and Maybelline “Bit of Berry,” a plum shade, on the center, topped with a deep purple gloss. However, if you already feel like the eye makeup is dramatic enough, then you can stick with a fail-proof nude lip by using NYX “Pops,” a mauvey nude shade, on the outer edges faded into L’Oreal “Fairest Nude,” a lighter nude, in the center.

I hope you loved this warm-toned metallic Autumn smokey eye as much as I do; please let me know if you try it out for Homecoming or another event!

XOXO,
Makena

    Ooo gorgeous Makena, I always want the Naked palette even more whenever you post with it! This year for homecoming I did dark purple on my eyes which is so different for me but I really liked the outcome! I did a look similar to this last night with a bright gold shimmer and about 3 different shades blended through my crease haha never enough shades!

    • Wow! Thank you so much, Sofia! The Naked palette is so timeless and I’ve bee trying to get more use of it since it is the most expensive makeup item I own. I love dark purple with my green eyes and I am sure you looked stunning for homecoming! I would love to see pictres of your makeup look! Using a bunch of similar shades to help blend everything out is a tip I learned from Jaclyn Hill and it helps so much! Thanks for reading! xoxo

        I definitely started watching Jaclyn Hill more in the past few months since you talk about learning a lot from her videos and now she’s one of my top YouTubers! That tip definitely has changed my eyeshadow game! Also, I’m sure you looked amazing for homecoming as well!

        • Ugh, I’m literally obsessed with her and her videos! Even if her look is way too dramatic for me and I’d never wear it, I love her techniques!I actually didn’t go to homecoming, but I came up with look and thought it woukd be perfect for a formal or for anything Autumn, haha! Can’t wait for your next post! xoxo

            I totally agree, I was always avoid her videos because the looks are some I usually wouldn’t wear but once I started I realized that I can learn so much from her!
