I love pretty much everything about the winter, except for how dry and chapped my lips are! In this post, I will be mentioning all of the products that my lips and I need in order to survive the winter!
- Exfoliators: Just like you would your face, exfoliating your lips is a great way to remove dead, chapped skin from your lips and it is most important to do so in the winter. This is when a lip exfoliator or scrub comes in handy! I love the Bubble Gum Lip Scrub from LUSH because it feels absolutely amazing on your lips and tastes and smells delicious, too. However, if you don’t want to spend $10 on sugar, then you can simply create your own lip exfoliator, which I have seen many times on Pinterest. While washing my face one night, I realized that the St. Ives Apricot Scrub also works really nicely on my lips to keep them soft and healthy all year long. You can also apply something like Aquaphor or the Rose Salve mentioned below to your lips and then gently rub them with a toothbrush to remove any excess skin.
- Aquaphor: If you haven’t heard of or used Aquaphor before, it is an inexpensive ointment that you can find at almost any drugstore and it is proven to seal in your skin’s moisture and repair dry, cracked, chapped, or irritated skin. Right now, I only have the original Healing Ointment, which also works wonders on my lips, but they also have their Lip Repair which is perfect for this! Both these products are great of you’re looking for an intense, thick. moisturizing treatment for overnight to soothe irritated chapped lips.
- C.O Bigelow Rose Salve: I’ve been using this life saver from Bath & Body Works for about two years now and I finally hit pan on my original one, so I bought a brand new one a couple days ago. They’re only around $5 and as you can tell they last forever, even if you’re like me and use a super thick layer every day. It feels a lot lighter and less sticky than Aquaphor, has a subtle and pretty pink tint instead of looking white, and smells like roses, which I love! I use a thin layer of this in the morning before applying my foundation so that my lips will be all moisturized and ready for when it comes time to put on my lipstick. I also use a very thick layer before I go to bed when my lips are less chapped and it does a wonderful job of moistuizing my lips and making them more healthy and soft. Please go out and buy this right now; I won’t mind if you abandon this post because it is just that good!
- Lip Balm, Lip Stick, or Lip Gloss: Ever since I was a little girl, I have always had very chapped lips, which is not helped by the fact that I have a bad habit of licking my lips. In order to prevent myself from making my lips even more red and dehydrated, I always make sure that I have a lip balm (I like EOS, Maybelline Baby Lips, Burt’s Bees, and Alba Botanica), lip gloss, or lipstick with me at all times. Even if it’s not actually moisturizing, I just like there to be something creamy on my lips, especially in the winter!
Hopefully you leanred a few helful tips that you can put to use this winter and please, please, please share your winter lip essentials with me!
XOXO,
Makena
