I have had such an amazing experience sharing all of my favorite drugstore makeup with you on my blog over the past few weeks and I could not think of a better way to bring this series to a close than to write about five products that I believe are underrated, but more importantly, underappreciated. The products I will be mentioning are from well-known and very accessible brands, but in my experience, they are often overlooked and deserve much more love.
With Summer just around the corner, I will once again be making room for the Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream in my makeup bag. Since Garnier is not a makeup brand, I don’t think many people are aware about this BB cream and how incredible it is, but other than the shade range, I love everything about it. It has beautiful medium coverage with SPF 20 and prevents my skin from becoming oily in heat and humidity without making it feel dry. I always have such a good skin and makeup day whenever I wear this, so I highly recommend it!
The Hard Candy Baked Highlighter in ‘Tiki’ used to be pretty popular several years ago, but with all of the exciting new products at the drugstore this one is often overlooked — so I am making sure to show it some love. I feel that this is a truly universal highlighter for all skin types; it doesn’t highlight texture, blemishes, or fine lines, and it provides so much luminosity while still looking very natural. I definitely want to dedicate an entire post to this one product because I love it so much and think you will too!
New York Color makes some of the best bronzers at the drugstore and although their Smooth Skin Bronzer in ‘Sunny’ is very sought-after, their Sun ‘n’ Bronze Bronzing Powders are very underrated. These are sheer yet buildable bronzers with a finely milled shimmer running through, adding a subtle glow for a sun-kissed look. I own the shade ‘Fire Island Tan’ and I reach for it so often because it looks stunning on the cheeks.
Although I have watched thousands of beauty videos on YouTube, I don’t think I have ever heard anyone talk about the Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadows, which is very surprising considering how wonderful the formula is. If you are looking for an effortlessly affordable yet high quality cream eyeshadow, each of the shades in the ‘Not Just Nudes’ palette are as pretty as they are pigmented and blendable.
When the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colors were first released, I could not stop using them; the color payoff and lasting-power is wonderful, making them the perfect option for anyone who wants the benefits of liquid lipsticks without being uncomfortable. They do take a while to dry down to a completely matte finish, but I still think they are a great value for the price and worth trying out at least once. ‘Seduction’, a lovely pinky nude, is one of my most favorite lip shades ever, but I also enjoy wearing ‘Kisses’, a unique mauve berry, and ‘Romance’, a classic red.
Which affordable makeup products in your collection do you think deserve more love? I hope you enjoyed Drugstore Week on Makeup By Makena; I love talking about affordable makeup so much and will definitely continue to incorporate more on my blog in the future!
XOXO,
Makena
