I’m forever indebted to Colorescience for creating the tinted SPF of my dreams!
I bought the Face Shield Flex SPF 50 more than a month ago and—even though I’d never thouht I would say this as someone who loves makeup and also struggles with acne—have barely reached for any of my foundations since.
Flex offers light to medium coverage, and no matter how many laters I apply, it never looks cakey. It feels lightweight and truly creates the perfect base for the rest of my makeup—even when compared to my go-to foundations. I feel so good knowing that the formula not only won’t make me break out but is also an extension of my skincare routine with beneficial ingredients like niacinamide
It’s water resistant for up to 40 minutes, and because it’s a mineral sunscreen, it doesn’t irrirate my eyes.
As you can see, the formula comes out of the tube white and the pigment develops once blended. I’ve found the product looks best when I warm it in my hands until the color develops, apply it to my face with my fingers and then blend it out with a damp beauty sponge. However, it also performs beautifully when applied directly to the face and blended out with a dense foundation brush, as shown in my video.
The product dries down from a dewy finish to a more natural, skin-like finish that I think both dry and oily skin types would love. It also wears well throughout the day.
The formula is available in four shades. I bought ‘Medium’ and even though there is no white cast, it’s a little light for summer, so I recommend choosing a darker shade if you’re deciding between two. Hopefully, Colorescience extends the shade range soon.
