When it comes to lip colors, I definitely have a type: warm, creamy, and neutral — pinky, mauvey nude, to be exact. If I’m being completely honest, most of my lip colors look almost the same, but there are a handful of liners, lipsticks, and glosses that I use on an everyday basis; they work for casual looks, and they work for special occasions, pairing well with almost anything.
Hydration is essential for a perfect pout, which is why the Skyn Iceland Berry Lip Fix with Wintered Red Algae has become a go-to product in my makeup routine. It might just be me, but this has a slight tingling sensation that makes my lips more plump, smooth, and moisturized. It also absorbs well, which means I don’t have to wait a long time or wipe it off before going in with my other lip products.
In the past couple of years, I have grown to absolutely love lip liner. Last summer, I picked up the ULTA Automatic Lip Liner in ‘Spice’, a light brown shade with rose undertones. It is ideal for creating a slightly darker nude lip on tan skin. The formula is on the creamier side whie still being longwearing.
My MAC Lip Pencil in ‘Whirl’ is definitely the most loved lip liner in my collection. A lot of people either love or hate this formula, and I personally love it. It is less creamy and emolient than most liners, which means it lasts longer without smudging or fading and it is more precise. It is not drying or uncomfortable, it just doesn’t glide as easily during application, which I don’t mind. This shade is the perfect ‘my lips but better’ shade for my skin tone , which can be hard to find. I love it so much!
Clearly I am in love wiht MAC’s lip products because another staple in my collection is the MAC Matte Lipstick in ‘Honeylove’. This formula is very creamy, pigmented, and long wearing, and the light beige with warm undertones makes for the most perfect nude lip ever. I love pairing this with any of the other lippies in this post, as it works well with darker liners and almost any gloss.
If you are like me and cannot get enough of medium pinky-nude lip colors, then you will absolutely love the ColourPop Ultra Glossy Lip in ‘Aquarius.’ It is pigmented and creamy (can you tell that’s something I look for in my nudes?) with a high-shine finish. I prefer doe foot applicators as opposed to brushes like this one, but the quality is still amazing, especially in light of the affordable price.
For luscious lips, I like the Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Pillow Plump XXL Lip Plumping Gloss in ‘Nude in Town.’ This nude gloss with warm, peachy undertones is opaque with a thick consistency, so it does require a little blendng to look its best, but it tingling, plumping formula makes my lips look significantly bigger. Let’s be honest, it is sticky, but that’s kinda what I signed up for.
One of the best lip gloss formulas on the market is the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer. It is smooth and shiny without being sticky, and it has the perfect amount of pigmentation and shimmer. I like that it pairs well over any liners and lipstick and that it looks perfect even when I throw it on without a mirror or any effort. I have the shade ‘FU$$Y,’ a shimmery pink, and I plan to purchase more of these once I run out.
The Milani Keep It Full Nourishing Lip Plumper has a similar formula to the Fenty gloss, but it it has a fresh, minty tingle is a little more sticky. I bought ‘Nude Shimmer’ a champagne gloss with lots of golden shimmer. This is not the type of shade I would typically choose, so at first I did not like it, but if you add the tiniest amount to the center of the lips over a nude lipstick, it makes the lips look full and summery.
