As my enchantment with makeup grows so does my desire to purchase the prettiest and most luxurious products. No matter how much I research I do or how many reviews I read, sometimes I purchase overpriced items that are ultimately disappointing. Today I am discussing four makeup products that I like but do not feel are worth the price tag.

The Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Eyeshadow Palette in ‘Pillow Talk’ is one of the most expensive beauty products I own. Although I am in love with the neutral rosy shades and the way my finished look comes together, I do not think any eyeshadow quad is worth $53 — especially when I own drugstore products with far more intense pigmentation. This is wonderful for a subtle wash of color and shimmer, but if you are looking for opaque mattes and intense metallics, then I recommend skipping on this. It has been two years since I first purchased and reviewed the Chanel Ombre Première Longwear Cream Eyeshadow in ‘Scintillance’, and even though I thought it was overpriced at $36, I initially loved everything about the formula; it was pigmented, blendable, and very long-lasting. Now, however, the shadow is completely dried out and crumbly. I have even protected the shadow with a plastic insert and added eye drops, but it is essentially unusable. When it comes to cream bases, the drugstore it where it’s at!

Even the best names in makeup have misses, and despite its smooth formula and beautiful pigmentation, the NARS Satin Lipstick in ‘Tolede’ is a miss considering it costs $26. If you are looking for a high-end lipstick, I don’t not recommend this one but I do not notice any difference at all between this and lipsticks from brands like Maybelline or NYX in terms of quality. My Velvet Lip Glide, on the other hand, is worth every penny.

The final pricey product I will be mentioning in today’s blog post is one that I have very mixed feelings about. The Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 in ‘Petal’ is honestly the most buttery and comfortable formula I have ever used. The sheer neutral pink is ideal for everyday wear but I go through the bullet so quickly. At $24 for a tinted lip balm, I am always worried the emollient formula will melt in my purse, and as you can see, the product itself has dents in it from scraping the side of the tube when applied.
