Ever since I first tried a sample of COOLA Suncare’s Makeup Setting Spray SPF 30 in one of my beauty subscription boxes, I have fallen in love with the brand’s high quality  products and everything for which it stands. I am happy to have found a brand that shares the same goals of empowering and educating others that define my blog, and I am eager to support an eco-friendly company rooted in San Diego — the place I call home. After reaching out to the brand, a very kind member of their PR team was generous enough to send me the COOLA Rōsilliance Organic BB+ Cream SPF 30*, which is the product I will be reviewing today. Beauty companies have reached out to me to review their products before, but so far, I have turned all of these offers down because I value your trust as a reader and would never consider working with companies whose products I do not already use and love. This is my first time ever collaborating with a brand, and although I am very excited, I want to ensure you that even though this post is not sponsored and I am not being paid to review this product, the opinions expressed in this post are completely honest, just like all of the others on Makeup By Makena.

~Packaging & Shade Range~

The Rōsilliance BB Cream is $52 and can be purchased from Sephora, Nordstrom, or the COOLA Suncare website. This BB Cream features a sleek and luxurious glass bottle with a pump for practicality. It contains 1.5 fluid ounces, which is 50% more product than the average foundation. Also, the matte ombré sliding boxes remind me of a California sunset, which I love. There are three available shades, including “Light/Medium” (a light shade with pink undertones), “Golden” (a medium-tan shade with warm undertones), and “Medium/Dark” (a deeper shade with neutral undertones). I was initially very disappointed in such a small shade range, but once I applied the product, I realized that since this has such a sheer coverage, there really is not enough color payoff for the variation in shade to make a visible difference for most people. For example, COOLA was generous enough to send me the two darker shades in the range; I use the shade “Golden” but I also tried “Medium/Dark” which seems like it would be far too deep for my skintone, but once applied, it is only slightly more tan than my natural skin color, making it perfect to use in Summer or as a liquid bronzer. I definitely hope more shades are launched so more people can enjoy this, but until then, do take into consideration its lack of opacity.

~Quality, Formula, & Application~

Rōsilliance is a tinted moisturizer and mineral BB cream created to provide a naturally radiant glow and promote more healthy-looking skin. It has a sheer coverage with a very dewy finish for the ultimate natural makeup look. It is important to remember that this is not a foundation, but a ‘beauty balm’ cream, which means it combines the effects of skin care, makeup, and sunscreen to moisturize, even skin tone, and protect. lf you prefer full or even light-medium coverage for everyday use, then you may not like this product by itself, because it does not conceal redness or blemishes. It simply evens out and improves your skintone without covering anything up. I know that a lot of people, including myself, do not understand why you would spend money on a BB cream or foundation if it does not make a visible difference in the way your skin looks, but this does make a difference. Even though I do not always feel comfortable with my skin wearing this product on its own, my skin does look and feel healthier after I apply it, enforcing my belief that makeup should enhance your natural beauty rather than mask every little imperfection. I find that a few pumps of this product blended out all over my face plus my favorite Maybelline Fit Me Concealer under my eyes and on my problem areas makes my skin look really beautiful while still staying natural and never looking cakey or fake like other foundations. Because of its hydrating properties and dewy finish, I recommend this to anyone with dry, and possibly normal or combination, skin, but unfortunately, I do not think this would work well at all if you have oily skin. If you are like me and struggle to find a base that actually makes your dehydrated skin extra glowy, then this will be very exciting, but if you only want a subtle sheen, then it is very easy to pat on a light layer of powder to mute the finish. This has a very impressive wear-time, lasting more than 8 hours. It can be patted into the skin (not rubbed) starting from the center of your face and blending outwards with your fingers, a brush, or a damp-beauty blender, depending on how dewy and sheer you want it to look. This can also be used underneath or mixed in with other foundations to create a more flawless and fresh base. For example, if you have a full coverage foundation that is matte, you can add some of this with it to make it more dewy while still obtaining more coverage. The only major problem I have found with this BB cream is that if you have a different product underneath or on top of this, it can sometimes it pill up and come off your face in weird chunks if you rub it too much. I think this might have to do with the variations among water- and oil-based products, so I would definitely recommend trying a sample before you purchase this to ensure it does not have a negative reaction with other products in your routine. Regardless, for the amount of money this BB Cream costs, this issue is not okay, so I really hope COOLA fixes this in their next reformulation because other than that, I truly love this product! The inclusion of rose stem cells in the formula is designed to smooth, hydrate, and replenish the skin, preventing and reducing visible signs of aging; the rose scent is luxurious and clean, reminiscent of Chanel beauty products. This BB Cream has broad-spectrum SPF 30 sun protection and is water-resistant for up to 80 minutes, which means it is long-wearing and great for days in the sun. In addition to being vegan, cruelty-free, and 70% organic, it is also hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic, making it ideal for individuals with sensitive or acne-prone skin. Overall, the COOLA Rōsilliance Organic BB+ Cream SPF 30 is extremely high quality and if you searching for the perfect high-end, natural, sheer, and glowy everyday base with skincare benefits, then this is perfect!
