A Timeless Staple | Makeup By Mario Master Mattes Eyeshadow Palette Review

With twelve timeless neutrals, the Makeup By Mario Master Mattes Eyeshadow Palette is a staple in any makeup collection, perfect for everything from a day in the office to a night on the town. This product can be purchased at Sephora or on the Makeup By Mario website for $48.

{Shade Range}

Master Mattes is a versatile and wearable arrangement of 12 shades that has truly made me fall in love with matte eyeshadows. It is the only all-matte palette I own, and — even though I typically gravitate toward shimmers — I love it so much more than I expected. Inspired by skin tones, these shades are rich and universally flattering. Although all the shadows are the same finish and similar tones, I have created so many different looks with these shades, making it far from boring. I never feel like there is a shade I’m missing, and that says a lot.

  • ‘Matte 1’: a creamy white with neutral undertones
  • ‘Matte 2’: a light-medium yellow-beige with warm undertones
  • ‘Matte 3’: a peachy cream with warm undertones
  • ‘Matte 4’: a medium peachy tan with warm undertones
  • ‘Matte 5’: a medium golden tan with warm undertones
  • ‘Matte 6’: a medium-deep brown with neutral undertones
  • ‘Matte 7’: a medium red brown shade with warm undertones
  • ‘Matte 8’: a medium caramel brown with warm undertones
  • ‘Matte 9’: a medium-deep red brown shade with warm undertones
  • ‘Matte 10’: a medium-deep brown with warm undertones
  • ‘Matte 11’: a deep brown with cool undertones
  • ‘Matte 12’: a black
{Quality & Formula}

In terms of packaging, Makeup By Mario is both sleek and practical. The white plastic doesn’t feel particularly luxurious, but it easy to clean. The palette is compact — about the size of my iPhone 11 — and includes a mirror, making it ideal for travel.

The eyeshadow formula itself is exceptional.

The brand describes the eyeshadows as having medium but buildable opacity, and I believe this is accurate. They are not sheer or subtle by any means, and they can be quickly and easliy layered for an intense effect. A lack of pigmentation is my number one complaint when it comes to many makeup products, and although I own and love several formulas that are more creamy and opaque than this one, I have nothing but positive things to say about it.

The medium coverage means they blend out effortlessly, especially compared to deep matte shades from other brands. There is minimal fall out. Becuase the shadows are so easy to use, I believe this palette would be amazing for beginners.

At $4 per eyeshadow, this palette is somewhat of an investment, but for me, it has been worth it. It would be great purchase during the biannual Sephora sale, which is when I purchased it. Whether I am using this for an everyday eye or a dramatic loo , I am never disappointed with how these shadow performs, and the colors are beautiful on everyone. I would highly recommend this palette.
